One of the greatest new contributions to the Austin film industry is the nearly-completed Spiderwood Studios just west of Bastrop, who opened their doors to the public for a rare sneak-peak to benefit the Mobile Film School. Twitchy Dolphin was on hand to co-sponsor the event along with several other area film-related businesses and our friends Echo Earth Media and Greenware Technologies who organized and hosted the event.
Spiderwood Studios is basically a full-fledged studio back lot atop 200 "groomed for production" acres of rolling central Texas ranch land. It is located along the Colorado River with terrain featuring forests, hills, creeks and fields for cinematic back drops. The event centered in the massive Sound Stage 1 building where we were able to set up a display of Twitchy Dolphin's most recent work. With nearly 200 attendees it was a great opportunity to share the Twitchy story with a lot of new people.
Guests were treated to guided tours of the studio's state-of-the-art new facilities including dressing rooms, music recording studios, an animation department, office space, conference rooms, suites, smaller sound stages, and a fireproof film vault — all wired with T1 connections and built using green technologies for maximum energy efficiency and cost savings.
Best of all, the entire night was for a good cause as all proceeds went to support the Mobile Film School, an organization dedicated to bringing media arts education to rural and under-served communities and to creating long-term mentoring relationships by pairing students with seasoned industry professionals and educators. Twitchy Dolphin Flix is proud to have been able to participate on their behalf.
